Assistant Presiding Judge Yvette Durant

Judge Yvette Durant was born and raised in Reno, Nevada. She obtained her Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of Nevada, Reno with High Distinction honors. She went on to attend the University of Washington School of Law in Seattle, WA and earned her Juris Doctor in 1991. She was admitted to the California Bar in 1997 and is also a member of the State Bar Associations in Nevada (1998) and Washington (1991).

Judge Durant initially worked as an attorney in Seattle, WA then opened her own law practice in Truckee, CA which existed from 1999 to 2011, serving clients in Sierra, Plumas, Nevada, El Dorado, Placer and Sacramento counties.

In 2011, Judge Durant was appointed to the bench to serve as the Court Commissioner for both Sierra and Nevada Counties. As Commissioner, she handled a variety of matters including traffic, family law, AB1058 child support, domestic violence, civil harassment, juvenile dependency, criminal misdemeanors and small claims appeals. Judge Durant also represented Sierra and Nevada Counties as the District Representative on the California Court Commissioner's Association. Judge Durant was also active in judicial and attorney education and served as a member of the AB1058 Education Advisory Committee.

In 2016, Judge Durant was appointed to serve as Superior Court Judge for Sierra County. Currently, Judge Durant is assigned to hear cases in the following areas: criminal misdemeanors and felonies, traffic, family law, domestic violence, civil harassment, juvenile dependency and delinquency, unlawful detainers, guardianships, and conservatorships.
